Current status

Hard path opened: build our own accredited exam

This is not open for enrollment yet. Training, payment, exam delivery, certificates, and any ANAB-CFP or ANSI accreditation claim remain disabled until the certification body, exam blueprint, item bank, remote-proctoring controls, policies, and audit evidence are accepted through the accreditation process.

Planned audience

Who the certification is being built for

After accreditation, this program is intended for restaurant managers, persons in charge, food-truck operators, commissary supervisors, catering managers, institutional food-service leaders, and employers that need at least one Certified Food Protection Manager for food-establishment compliance. Until accreditation is granted, learners should use a currently accepted accredited certification provider.

Certification boundary

Training alone will not certify a manager

The future certificate can only be issued after a candidate passes the accredited, proctored Food Protection Manager exam. Course completion by itself will not represent manager certification, and the public certificate wording will stay locked until accreditation and jurisdiction-acceptance language are final.

What must be built before launch

The commercial opportunity is strong, but the moat is the certification system itself. The build has to satisfy exam-development, proctoring, security, governance, reporting, candidate-rights, and certificate-verification expectations before any certificate can be issued.

1

ANAB-CFP application, scope definition, certification scheme, candidate eligibility, recertification rules, and public program documentation

2

Exam blueprint tied to Food Code knowledge areas, active managerial control, risk factors, and food-establishment manager duties

3

Secure item-bank development with subject-matter review, psychometric review, cut-score rationale, form assembly, retirement rules, and item exposure controls

4

Remote-proctoring model with identity verification, room scan, webcam/microphone monitoring, incident logs, accommodation process, and documented proctor training

5

Candidate handbook, exam rules, appeals, complaints, discipline, retest limits, score reporting, confidentiality, and certificate-verification workflow

6

Training course built separately from certification decisions so education, exam eligibility, scoring, and certificate issuance remain impartial and auditable

7

State and local acceptance matrix for jurisdictions that recognize ANAB-CFP programs, plus careful language for any local exceptions

8

Launch pricing, employer bulk-seat workflow, bilingual English/Spanish delivery, support operations, renewal reminders, and public certificate lookup

Operating decision

Remote proctoring is viable, but must be accredited

The plan is to pursue remote proctoring as part of the official exam-administration model, not as an informal online quiz. The accreditation packet needs to show standardized administration, exam security, candidate identity controls, trained proctors, incident handling, score integrity, and certificate controls.

Target price after accreditation: $149 target after accreditation
Competitor benchmark: ServSafe and other accredited providers commonly price manager exam packages above entry-level food safety cards.
No enrollment, checkout, exam, or certificate issuance before written accreditation clearance.
Remote proctoring is planned as a controlled exam-administration channel.
The exam bank must remain separate from public course previews and marketing pages.
A psychometric consultant or qualified exam-development advisor should be engaged before item-bank buildout.
The first external action is requesting the ANAB-CFP application, fee schedule, timeline, and remote-proctoring evidence expectations.
A state/local acceptance matrix is required before public launch claims are broadened beyond the accrediting program language.
