Course purpose
Rhode Island's one-time annuity training a producer must complete before selling, soliciting, or negotiating annuities. It teaches the best-interest standard (230-RICR-20-25-1 (Suitability in Annuity Transactions), promulgated under R.I. Gen. Laws § 27-29-12, adopting the NAIC 2020 best-interest revisions, effective April 1, 2021) and its four obligations - care, disclosure, conflict of interest, and documentation - plus annuity types and classifications, the parties to an annuity, product features, the income taxation of qualified and non-qualified annuities, the primary uses of annuities, and appropriate standards of conduct, sales practices, replacement, and disclosure, with the Rhode Island Unfair Competition and Practices law (R.I. Gen. Laws § 27-29-4; unfair claims settlement under R.I. Gen. Laws Ch. 27-9.1) (R.I. Gen. Laws § 27-29-4) and the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation, Insurance Division discipline (R.I. Gen. Laws Ch. 27-2.4) - with lesson knowledge checks, a final exam, a certificate, and CE reporting. Delivered as a bilingual online 4-credit course.
