Illinois Security Guard Course Information

Review the Illinois 20-hour security guard training course information, statutory alignment under 225 ILCS 447/25-20 and 68 Ill. Adm. Code 1240.505, employer certification requirement, seat-time rules, final exam controls, tuition, protected price-match terms, and support before relying on this course for any PERC card or security guard employment record.

Illinois 20-hour requirement alignment

This course is built to fulfill the 20-hour basic training portion referenced in 225 ILCS 447/25-20 and 68 Ill. Adm. Code 1240.505 for Illinois security guard employment and PERC employer-certification support. Completion provides a course record for employer/private security contractor agency review and certification; PERC registration, fingerprint/background-check steps, and IDFPR review remain separate.

Course requirements and certification

Illinois handles 20-hour basic training through statutory and administrative requirements rather than a separate course-application approval process. This course is built to meet 225 ILCS 447/25-20 and 68 Ill. Adm. Code 1240.505; employer/agency certification, PERC registration, fingerprint/background-check steps, and IDFPR review remain separate.

Self-study online delivery

The online course is built for asynchronous self-study delivery with sequential lessons, active seat-time tracking, knowledge checks, final-exam controls, completion-record controls, and support records.

Course timing

The course requires 20 hours (1200 minutes) of active online course time. The final exam remains locked until the full seat-time requirement and lesson sequence are complete.

Illinois training timeline and records

68 Ill. Adm. Code Part 1240.505 requires the 20-hour basic training within 30 days after commencing employment, allows classroom-based or online Internet-based delivery, and does not allow the basic training to be conducted as on-the-job training. Separate employer-managed obligations may include 8 additional hours within 6 months after employment and 8 refresher hours each calendar year after the first employment anniversary. The Certification of Completion or copy is the permanent training record retained by the individual and filed by the employer with the employee statement during employment.

Final exam

The final exam draws 50 questions from a 100-question bank. The passing score is 70%, and the planned time limit is 60 minutes.

Completion record controls

Course completion records release only after identity setup, lesson completion, active seat-time requirement, and passing the final exam. Official certification of Illinois basic training remains the employer/private security contractor agency's responsibility under IDFPR and employer recordkeeping rules.

PERC and employer record boundary

A course completion record is not a PERC card. Illinois PERC registration, fingerprint/background-check steps, employer certification on the Department form, agency records, and IDFPR review remain separate requirements outside the online course.

Tuition

$29.99 is the public price for individual online enrollment, with manual price-match review before payment. Review is limited to current public paid one-time individual learner prices for comparable online Illinois 20-hour basic security training. Coupons, private links, expired promotions, subscriptions, bundles, hidden-fee offers, PERC/fingerprint/firearm/application packages, in-person-only formats, and offers made to manipulate the review are excluded.

What is included in the price

One tuition payment covers everything the student needs to complete the online course. Included: 10 lessons covering all 20 hours, practice exams with answer explanations (unlimited retakes), study sheet with key terms, Illinois statutes, side-by-side comparisons, memory aids, lesson knowledge checks, text-to-speech guided reading, English instructional text with Spanish lesson translation and learner navigation/orientation, and a completion record after passing the final exam.
