Application guide posts July 1; submission window opens September 1

Virginia ABC confirmed on May 11, 2026 that the next STAP application information and guide will be posted on July 1, 2026, and that the application period runs September 1, 2026 through October 1, 2026. Enrollment, payment, certificates, and any Virginia ABC/STAP certification claim remain closed unless and until written certification is granted.

The course is being prepared for Virginia alcohol sellers, servers, managers, licensees, and hospitality employers who need responsible alcohol service education after Virginia ABC certification. Until certification is granted, students and employers should use only currently certified STAP training options for compliance.

No Virginia ABC/STAP certificate claim before approval

Virginia ABC confirmed that online-only training courses are eligible for STAP certification, but this course is not certified yet. Completion certificates and any STAP certification representation will remain disabled until Virginia ABC issues written certification and the approved launch controls are released.

A reviewer login and password will be required so Virginia ABC can review the training course.
There is no application fee.
An annual report is asked of all STAP-certified trainings annually.
English/Spanish submission handling should be checked against the July 1 guide before filing.
