South Carolina Defensive Driving Course (Four-Point Reduction Equivalent)

8-hour online defensive-driving course information prepared as an equivalent to the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course for the South Carolina four-point reduction under S.C. Code 56-1-770, with hazard recognition, space management, impairment, distraction, South Carolina rules of the road, and emergency response taught with statutes inline.

Students and reviewers

Who the course is for

The course information is for South Carolina drivers seeking the once-every-three-years four-point reduction under S.C. Code 56-1-770. Until SCDMV provides written guidance, drivers should use only a National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course or another SCDMV-recognized option for point-reduction purposes.

Certificate workflow

Certificate issued only after approval and completion

After SCDMV guidance and enrollment opening, a student who completes all 8 sequential modules, 480 recorded active minutes, identity checks, and the 40-question final exam with at least 80% would receive a completion certificate. Completion, certificate-number, and verification records are retained for at least five years.

Eight-hour online course plan

The course mirrors the recognized defensive-driving canon and teaches South Carolina statutes inline: the state crash picture and point-reduction framework, the defensive-driving method, speed and space management, impairment, distraction and aggression, rules of the road, sharing the road, and emergencies.

1

The South Carolina crash picture and the S.C. Code 56-1-770 four-point reduction framework

2

The defensive-driving method: hazard recognition, prediction, and prevention

4
