The key questions an employer is likely to ask
Is this course open for enrollment now?
Yes. The interactive core course is open for online enrollment, payment, course access, and certificate release after completion. Employers must still add site-specific information such as exits, meeting locations, emergency devices, security devices, reporting paths, and store procedures.
Does digital training count as interactive in New York?
Yes, if the employee provides input during the training and receives a response. That rule appears in the current NYSDOL FAQ, which is why this lane is being designed as an interactive digital flow rather than a static reading packet.
Does the course replace store-specific instructions?
No. New York says employers still need to add exits, meeting locations, emergency devices, security devices, and other store-specific emergency procedures.
Who is covered by this law?
Retail employers with 10 or more retail employees anywhere in New York State are covered, including employees across multiple locations. Restaurants that primarily sell food for on-site consumption are excluded.
Do employees need the training in their primary language?
New York requires a written training template in the employee's primary language if NYSDOL provides a translation for that language. This course route is prepared in English and Spanish and is designed to preserve bilingual rollout materials.
Must the employer offer this on paid time?
Yes. The current NYSDOL FAQ says employers must offer retail workplace violence prevention training during paid work time.
